Absorption of Fluoride and Chloride by Barley Roots

چکیده
started. As shoot growth occurred, there was a decrease in percentage total ni.trogen, followed by an increase in early fall. Total nitrogen content was closely associated with bud activity in tanweed rhizomes. Protein nitrogen in rhizome extracts was the only other character studied that was positively correlated with bud activity. Peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities were closely correlated with one another and were highest during the period of greatest bud dormancy. Indoleacetic acid oxidase activity fluctuated considerably during the sampling period, but was lowest during July. Bud activity, percentage total nitrogen, and protein nitrogen all were negatively correlated with peroxidase activity, polyphenoloxi, dase activity, and temperature. Activities of peroxidase, polyphenoloxidase, and indoleacetic acid oxidase were positively correlated with temperature.

متن کاملCalcium inhibition of potassium absorption in corn roots.
Calcium (or magnesium) sulfate or chloride was found to inhibit energy dependent potassium transport in excised corn roots. This Ca(2+) inhibition of K(+) transport was most pronounced during the initial phases of transport. As the absorption periods were lengthened the effect of Ca(2+) gradually changed from an inhibition to a typical promotion (after about 30-45 mins) of K(+) transport. Kinet...
متن کاملThe regulation of potassium absorption in barley roots.
The dynamics of changes in K(+) influx across the plasmalemma and of internal K(+) concentrations [K(+)](1) of intact barley (Hordeum vulgare) roots were examined as the roots were converted from ;high-salt' to ;low-salt' roots. Following the transfer of plants grown in 0.5 mm CaSO(4) solutions plus various concentrations of KCl to 0.5 mm CaSO(4) solutions, influx rates increased and internal K...
متن کاملInhibitory effects of 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic Acid on ion absorption, respiration, and carbon metabolism in excised barley roots.
The ability of 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA) to alter ion absorption, respiration, carbon metabolism, and the permeability of the cell membranes of excised barley roots has been examined. Roots pretreated in either H(2)O, KCl, or TIBA followed by treatment in KCl, TIBA, or KCl and TIBA demonstrated that inhibition of ion uptake due to TIBA was reversible. These studies also suggest that ions...
متن کاملPhosphorylation by Barley Root Mitochondria & Phosphate Absorption by Barley Roots.
The absorption by roots of ions in general, and phosphate absorption in particular, can occur against concentration gradients so great as to require free energy changes of the order of 8,000 calories per nmole. This implies coupling in the absorption process with reactions Jeroceecling wdith considerable free energy decrease. Few reacticius in plants other than those for production or destructi...
